Questions and answers
Everything about the production, manufacture, ordering and quality of CICHART ring watches
1. What is the mechanical joint?
The mechanical joint is the core of every CICHART® ring watch — and a registered European design (RCD — Registered Community Design). It is a mechanical joint that makes the dial readable from any hand position. The joint absorbs forces generated on the finger without affecting the accuracy of the movement. Seven years of development have gone into this precision.
2. Why is the Avantgarde I design protected?
Because no one had solved it before. Integrating a fully mechanical movement into the dimensions of a ring is not the real challenge. The problem is taming gravity and inertia on the finger without loss of accuracy. This is exactly what the mechanical joint solves. European design law protects the overall design of the Avantgarde I – the case, mechanics, and mechanical joint as a unit.
3. How exactly does Avantgarde I work?
The installed calibers are based on Sellita or ETA movements — the recognized Swiss industry standard for precision and durability. Accuracy: typically ±5–10 seconds per day, depending on the caliber and wearer's habits.
4. How is the movement wound?
The Avantgarde I winds automatically through the natural movement of the hand — the Tilt Pivot System transfers kinetic energy directly into the winding mechanism. The movement also features a crown for manual winding. The caliber runs fully mechanically, without battery and without electronics. Power reserve is ca 38 hours according to the Sellita specification.
5. Is the timepiece waterproof?
Yes. Despite its movable case and complex mechanics, the Avantgarde I is water-resistant up to 5 - 10 ATM — sufficient for demanding everyday use, sports, and occasional water contact. Diving or pressurized water is not recommended.
6. What materials is the Avantgarde I made of?
The case is optionally made of Grade 5 titanium or carbon – high-performance materials from aerospace and motorsport. Grade 5 titanium is biocompatible, corrosion-resistant, and around 45% lighter than steel. Carbon is even lighter, extremely rigid, and has a unique visual character. Both variants are designed for lasting comfort.
7. Why not stainless steel or gold?
CICHART® follows the principle of Engineering over Decoration. Material is not chosen for its signal, but for its performance. Titanium and carbon provide superior strength at minimal weight — the decisive parameter for a timepiece on the finger.
8. Where is the Avantgarde I manufactured?
Design and engineering are Engineered in Germany. The mechanical calibers C1 and C11 originate from Switzerland — refined Sellita or ETA movements. The complex case structures and the design-protected tilting mechanism are manufactured by selected specialized manufacturers according to our specifications.
9. Can you see the movement through the case?
Yes. Every Avantgarde I is equipped with an exhibition back – a transparent case back that provides a direct view of the caliber. The interplay of the wheels, the balance, the escapement – directly on your finger.
10. What calibers does CICHART® use?
Exclusively calibers based on Sellita or ETA — the world's most renowned manufacturers of mechanical watch movements. We refine and modify these movements into our C1 and C11 calibers. The structural advantage: any competent watchmaker worldwide can service the timepiece.
11. How do I find my ring size?
Precision starts with the fit. After your purchase, we will send you a complimentary CICHART® Sizing Kit. You can use it to precisely measure your finger and provide us with the measurements. The Avantgarde I will only then be completed with the appropriate ring.
12. Can the ring size be changed later?
Due to the mechanical complexity of the casing, subsequent resizing is complex. We therefore recommend using the sizing kit carefully and seeking personal advice in advance if you are unsure.
13. How heavy is the Avantgarde I?
Surprisingly lightweight — that's one of the most common comments from our customers. Titanium Grade 5 weighs 47 grams. The timepiece doesn't impress with its heft, but with its presence.
14. On which finger is the Avantgarde I worn?
The Avantgarde I is designed for the index or middle finger. Comfort depends on finger shape and personal lifestyle. We are happy to advise you individually - online or in person by appointment.
15. Where can I buy the Avantgarde I?
The Avantgarde I is available through two channels: directly via the official CICHART® online shop at cichart.com — and in person at our Lounge in Stuttgart, by appointment. On site, you can experience, try on, purchase, pay for, and take home the ring watch in eight available ring sizes. Appointments are made via cichart.com/contact.
16. How long does delivery take?
Selected CICHART® Ring Watch models are available in the common ring sizes (6–13) and are dispatched immediately — in Germany, your ring watch arrives within 2 to 4 working days.
If you do not know your ring size, we send you a complimentary CICHART® Sizing Kit. Once we receive your result, your ring watch is reserved and dispatched without delay.
If your size is exceptionally unavailable, we produce it for you at short notice. For special sizes outside the standard range, delivery time may extend to up to 8 weeks. We keep you informed at every step.
17. Can I try on the timepiece before purchasing?
Yes. By appointment, you can experience the Avantgarde I live in our location in Stuttgart City — weight, mechanics, the mechanical joint in action. Contact us to make an appointment via the contact page on cichart.com.
18. Is there early access to new editions?
By joining the waitlist, you will be the first to get access to the next limited edition.
19. Will the price increase in the future?
Yes. Each edition is defined by a strict quantity limit. Once an edition is sold out, it will not be produced again. Early access is also the most affordable entry point.
20. What is the warranty for the Avantgarde I?
CICHART® provides a 5-year manufacturer's warranty from the date of purchase against defects in material and workmanship. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, improper handling, or mechanical damage caused by external influences.
21. Who can service the timepiece?
Since we rely on established calibers based on Sellita/ETA, the movement can be serviced by any competent professional watchmaker worldwide. For work on the case, the Tilt Pivot System, or the design-protected tilting mechanism, we strongly recommend the authorized CICHART® Service.
22. How often should it be serviced?
We recommend a service for mechanical movements every 3–5 years: cleaning, oiling, and rate adjustment. The mechanical joint is checked during every service inspection.
23. What happens if the mechanical joint is damaged?
The mechanical joint is designed for everyday use and is accordingly robustly constructed. In case of a defect, please contact CICHART® directly. We will analyze the damage and carry out the repair in our manufacturing facility.
24. Why is the Avantgarde I limited?
Limitation is not a sales strategy. It is a structural necessity: each ring watch is handcrafted by specialized manufacturers or independent watch makers. Volume and quality are mutually exclusive in this segment. The limitation simultaneously secures the collector's value for our customers.
25. How many copies are there per edition?
The exact quantity will be communicated with each respective edition. Each Avantgarde I bears an individual numbering between e -100 ring watches.
26. Does Avantgarde I have investment potential?
The combination of registered European design rights, Swiss mechanics, high-performance materials, and strict limitation creates a market positioning that is structurally oriented towards value stability. CICHART® is not a financial product — but an object that maintains its value through scarcity, craftsmanship, and technological uniqueness.
